Building the spacesuit hardware for a sci fi film, Trapped in Space.

This was a fast turnaround film with limited budget. We were tasked with producing a number of spacesuit hardware and many props. We did not have time to produce complex patterns and mould them.

We treated this as a complete kit bash exercise. We had free go at making stuff that had to look very complex. We went out and bought heaps of large super soaker guns and other toys as well as old electrical stuff.

We went to town making high tech backpacks and stuck them on rucksack frames. It was a joy to be given such freedom as well as being able to make them very dirty and used.

The only patterns made were for the helmets and chest unit. They were simple to build and it made sense to mould and cast these as lots were needed and were all the same.
